Porquerolles island offers tranquil escape on the French Riviera

Porquerolles is a croissant-shaped island located on the French Riviera, approximately twenty minutes by boat from the mainland. Known for its turquoise waters, pine forests, and vineyards, the island maintains a tranquil atmosphere with only about 200 permanent residents and no cars or public transport, making it ideal for walking or cycling.

The island features several notable beaches, including Plage Notre-Dame within the Port-Cros National Park, Plage d’Argent, and Plage de La Courtade. It is also a destination for wine enthusiasts, hosting three wineries that produce Côtes de Provence rosé, such as Domaine Perinsky, Domaine de la Courtade, and Domaine de L’Ile. Historical sites like the 16th-century Fort Sainte Agathe are also present on the island.
