Porsche 918 Spyder seized in Manila customs fraud investigation
Authorities in the Manila metropolitan area have seized a luxury Porsche 918 Spyder following the discovery of a major customs fraud. The investigation began during a routine traffic stop where officers noticed the vehicle was using an unauthorized, custom-made license plate.
Upon reviewing records, customs officials discovered that when the vehicle was imported in 2021, the importer declared it as a standard Porsche Boxster valued at approximately 3.26 million Philippine pesos (roughly 53,000 EUR). In reality, the vehicle was a limited-edition hybrid hypercar with a value of at least 48 million pesos (over 780,000 EUR).
As a result of the misdeclaration, the importer paid only 1.8 million pesos in duties and taxes, avoiding approximately 32 million pesos (520,000 EUR) in required payments. The vehicle is currently registered to actor Derek Ramsay, who claims he purchased the car from a local luxury dealer four years ago under the impression that all taxes and duties had been properly settled. If the owner fails to provide proof of full payment within fifteen days, the vehicle will be forfeited to the state for public auction.
