Porsche and Red Bull F1 deal collapsed at last minute, says former executive
Former Porsche Motorsport boss Fritz Enzinger has revealed that a major deal between Porsche and Red Bull to enter Formula 1 collapsed at the final moment. According to Enzinger, a handshake had already occurred between Porsche CEO Oliver Blume and Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz, and a joint press release had been prepared for release around the Spielberg race.
The proposed partnership was extensive, involving Porsche providing power units to Milton Keynes and potentially taking over 50 percent of Red Bull’s Formula 1 operations. However, the deal failed to materialize due to a change in direction within Red Bull.
Enzinger cited several contributing factors for the collapse, including unresolved regulatory points regarding engine rules and the declining health of Dietrich Mateschitz at the time. Additionally, negotiations required approval from Red Bull’s Thai majority shareholders, which ultimately led to a shift in course and the decision not to proceed with the investment.
