Porsche celebrates 30 years of the Boxster and its historical legacy

Porsche marks the 30th anniversary of the Boxster, a model that played a critical role in the company's economic recovery. First revealed as a concept in 1993 and entering series production in August 1996, the 986 generation featured a water-cooled 2.5-liter six-cylinder boxer engine. The Boxster was developed alongside the 996 generation of the 911, sharing various components and design elements to reduce production costs and return the manufacturer to profitability.

Reflecting on the brand's broader history, the Porsche 356 remains a foundational model. Designed by Ferdinand Porsche, the 356 was the first mass-produced vehicle to bear the Porsche logo. Initial production began in Gmünd, Austria, with approximately 50 hand-built aluminum models, before serial production with steel bodies moved to Zuffenhausen, Germany. The model evolved through various iterations, including the Pre-A and the 356 A, which introduced advanced features like the DOHC Fuhrmann engine.
