Porsche develops dual-clutch transmission to simulate manual shifting
Porsche is developing a new dual-clutch transmission designed to simulate the experience of a traditional manual gearbox. According to a recent patent filed with the European Patent Office, the technology aims to provide enthusiasts with the tactile feeling of manual shifting while maintaining the precision and speed of an automatic system.
The transmission is expected to offer three distinct modes of operation. The first is a standard automatic mode where the car manages all gear changes. The second is a semi-automatic mode allowing for manual control via paddles or a lever. The third, most unique configuration, would feature a physical clutch pedal and an H-pattern gear shifter. In this mode, electronic sensors would transmit driver inputs to the computer to mimic the behavior of a mechanical manual transmission.
This development follows similar technological approaches seen in high-end models from competitors like Ferrari, which uses electronic controls to simulate manual engagement in specialized limited-edition vehicles.
