Porsche develops new battery cells using recycled materials
Porsche AG, in collaboration with the German recycling company cylib, has successfully produced new battery cells using raw materials recovered from old high-voltage batteries. This technological milestone involves the full replacement of virgin materials with recycled lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese.
The initiative is part of an ongoing pilot project aimed at increasing resource efficiency and reducing dependence on newly mined raw materials. Currently, the recycled battery elements are undergoing operational testing to ensure they meet Porsche’s quality and performance standards.
Broader results from these tests are expected in the second half of 2026, which will determine if these recycled materials can be used in mass-produced series batteries. Porsche aims to integrate recovered materials into new battery production starting in 2028.
