Porsche evaluates new supercar and weight-reduction technology

Porsche is exploring the development of a new mid-engine supercar by leveraging existing technologies within the Volkswagen Group, specifically from Audi and Lamborghini. This strategy aims to reduce development costs for low-volume vehicles. The potential model may utilize architecture from the limited-edition Audi Nuvolari, which is expected to debut in 2027 with 1,001 horsepower.

In a separate technological push to reduce vehicle weight, Porsche plans to integrate gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors into its Burmester 3D High-End Surround audio systems starting in 2027. This semiconductor technology reduces energy loss and heat generation, allowing for more compact components. Porsche reports that this will result in an aluminum heat sink that is approximately 20% lighter, contributing to overall weight reduction and improved efficiency for future electric sports models.
