Porsche issues stop-drive order for 2024 models due to wheel defect

Porsche has issued an urgent stop-drive order for certain 2024 models due to a defect in the center-lock wheel mounting system. The recall, involving 548 vehicles in North America, follows reports of component failures that could lead to a complete loss of vehicle control if a wheel detaches while driving.

The issue stems from a central locking bolt that may be manufactured outside of specifications, making it susceptible to fracturing under load. This campaign expands upon an earlier recall initiated in October 2024. An investigation by Porsche and its parts supplier revealed that previous screening methods failed to identify all defective components from specific material batches.

Affected models include the 911 GT3, 911 GT3 RS, 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo S, 911 S/T, 911 Carrera GTS, 718 Cayman GT4 RS, and 718 Spyder RS. Authorized dealers will inspect the systems and replace faulty components free of charge. Owners are advised not to drive the affected vehicles until an inspection is completed.
