Porsche Macan Turbo loses $50,000 in value within three months

A heavily configured electric Porsche Macan Turbo recently sold at auction in the United States for $97,000, representing a loss of nearly $50,000 for its original owner in less than 100 days. Despite having only 1,900 miles (approximately 3,000 km) on the odometer, the vehicle's value plummeted from an initial purchase price of over $146,000.

The significant depreciation is attributed in part to expensive optional equipment, such as a Burmester sound system, 22-inch wheels, and augmented reality head-up displays, which rarely retain value for second-hand buyers.

This incident reflects a broader trend in the American used car market. Data from iSeeCars indicates that fully electric vehicles have lost an average of 57.2 percent of their new car value after five years. High-end models like the Porsche Taycan have also seen substantial declines, with an average depreciation of 54.7 percent. Analysts suggest that while EVs often carry higher initial price tags than internal combustion engine counterparts, buyers in the secondary market are often unwilling to pay that premium.
