Porsche partners with Xpeng to manage European CO2 emissions
Porsche has entered into a partnership with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng to manage fleet-wide CO2 emissions in Europe. This move involves creating an open emissions pool where Porsche will register its vehicles alongside Xpeng's zero-emission electric models to help meet strict European Union environmental targets.
By joining this pool, Porsche is decoupling from the Volkswagen Group's emissions registry. This strategic shift follows a decline in Porsche's electric vehicle sales in Europe, with battery-electric registrations reportedly falling by nearly 30% in 2026. In contrast, Xpeng has seen significant growth in the European market, recording over 19,000 sales in the first half of the year.
The collaboration is designed to provide Porsche with more flexibility during its transition to electromobility. While Porsche continues to invest in electric technology, the company has also refocused on internal combustion engine models due to shifting market demands and regulatory changes.
