Porsche Penske wins Petit Le Mans as Jack Aitken clinches IMSA GTP title
The 29th edition of Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta concluded a chaotic IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, marked by heavy rain, lightning, and 16 neutralizations.
In the GTP class, Jack Aitken secured the driver championship for Action Express Racing and Cadillac before the race even began, clinching the title via qualifying points. The race itself saw Porsche Penske Motorsport take an overall victory with the No. 6 Porsche 963, driven by Laurens Vanthoor, Kevin Estre, and Matt Campbell. Vanthoor secured the win by a narrow 1.205-second margin over the BMW M Team WRT.
In the LMP2 category, CrowdStrike Racing by APR claimed victory, while Inter Europol Competition finished second to secure the class runner-up championship. Other notable results included Winward Racing securing a title in the GT classes and Marco Cirone locking down the Porsche Carrera Cup Masters class championship. The event was characterized by intense competition and strategic shifts due to volatile weather conditions.
