Porsche recalls high-performance sports cars over wheel detachment risk
Porsche is conducting a recall of several high-performance 2024 model year sports cars due to a manufacturing defect in the center-lock wheel nuts. The defect involves the single central nut used to secure the wheel, which may fracture and cause the wheel to loosen or detach from the vehicle while driving.
In the United States, the recall affects 548 vehicles, including models such as the 911 Carrera GTS, 911 Turbo S, 718 Cayman GT4 RS, and 718 Spyder RS. Porsche has issued a “stop drive” order for these vehicles, advising owners to park the cars immediately if they notice “noticeable vibrations” from the wheels. Official notifications are expected to be sent by mid-December 2026.
In Australia, Porsche Cars Australia is recalling 77 examples of 2024 911 and 718 models. The defect poses a risk of loss of vehicle stability and control, which could lead to accidents, injuries, or death. Affected owners will be contacted to arrange free repairs at authorized Porsche Centres.
