Porsche reportedly developing new ‘S1’ hypercar with eight-cylinder engine

Porsche is reportedly developing a new flagship hypercar, internally codenamed ‘S1’, marking the company’s first major foray into the ultra-high-end supercar segment since the production of the 918 Spyder ended in 2015.

According to reports from Handelsblatt, the new model is expected to be an independent development rather than a derivative of the 911 series. The vehicle is rumored to feature an eight-cylinder boxer engine, a powertrain Porsche has prototyped in the past but has never utilized in a production road car. The estimated starting price for the S1 is approximately 500,000 euros, positioning it in a premium tier significantly above the 911 GT3 RS.

This move aligns with a strategic shift toward higher profit margins per unit, even if overall sales volumes fluctuate. Further details regarding Porsche’s future lineup may be revealed during the company’s upcoming Capital Market Day on October 7.
