Porsche to provide platform for Audi C-Sport electric sports car
Porsche has confirmed that Audi’s upcoming electric sports car, internally referred to as ‘C-Sport’, will utilize the platform being developed for the next generation of the 718 Boxster and Cayman models. Porsche Chief Financial Officer Jochen Breckner disclosed the details during a business results meeting, noting that Porsche expects payment for providing this electric platform in 2027.
The collaboration is part of a broader strategy within the Volkswagen Group to share development costs and technology. The resulting Audi model is expected to be positioned between the former TT and R8 models. While the vehicles will share hardware to manage the high costs of electric vehicle architecture—specifically regarding battery placement, cooling, and mass distribution—each brand will maintain its own identity through unique design, suspension tuning, and motor power.
A notable technical distinction is that while the new Boxster and Cayman will feature soft or fixed roofs, the Audi C-Sport is expected to feature an electric targa roof. This would mark the first time an Audi production model utilizes a system where two roof panels are stowed beneath the rear lid.
