Porsche unveils Mission S mid-engine supercar concept

Porsche has unveiled the Mission S concept, a mid-engined super sports car platform positioned above the 911. This move is part of the company’s ‘Sportwagenschmiede ’35’ strategic realignment, which focuses on high-margin, exclusive models to drive profitability.

Notably, Porsche has decided against a fully electric version for this specific platform. CEO Michael Leiters stated that there is “no demand” for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) in the high-end supercar segment, where customers prioritize engine sound and analog driving experiences. Instead, the new platform will support internal combustion engines, traditional hybrids, and plug-in hybrids.

The Mission S concept features design elements inspired by historical models like the 911 GT1, 959, and 917. The interior emphasizes driver connection, opting for physical buttons and a combination of analog and digital instruments rather than large, permanent infotainment screens.

This strategic shift coincides with the debut of the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid, which integrates an electric motor into the existing flat-six engine to boost performance. While Porsche continues to electrify mass-market models like the Taycan and Macan, the company is maintaining a clear distinction between consumer electrification and the enthusiast-driven supercar market.
