Port Adelaide defeats Essendon to secure wooden spoon for Bombers

Essendon secured the AFL wooden spoon following a 10-point defeat to Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium. The loss leaves the Bombers with a 2-21 record, marking the worst season in the club's history, surpassing even the 2016 season.

Despite the loss, Essendon forward Nate Caddy recorded a career-best six goals. Port Adelaide's Mitch Georgiades contributed five goals to lead the Power to victory. Other notable performances included Angus Clarke with three goals for Essendon, and Jase Burgoyne and Ollie Wines for Port Adelaide.

Interim coach Dean Solomon will soon hand over leadership to a new full-time appointment. The club faces a period of transition, with speculation surrounding the future of former captain Zach Merrett following his 32-disposal performance.
