Port Alberni to host block party for HGTV Home Town Takeover reveal

Port Alberni will host a public block party at Harbour Quay on August 28, 2026, to celebrate the final day of filming for the HGTV Canada series ‘Home Town Takeover’. The event, scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m., marks the conclusion of the inaugural season of the program, which features Port Alberni as the first Canadian city to undergo a takeover.

Activities planned for the celebration include live music, free children's activities, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a self-guided tour of the area. There will also be an open house at the Marine Building, which has recently undergone renovations. HGTV hosts Sarah and Bryan Baeumler are expected to make a guest appearance.

Attendees are advised that the event will be filmed for national television, and participants may appear on the program; consent forms will be required for adults and parents for minors. Due to expected limited parking, organizers recommend walking, biking, carpooling, or using public transit.
