Port Alberni to open eight transitional recovery beds
Eight new transitional recovery beds are opening at the Inlet Recovery Home in Port Alberni to support individuals facing substance use challenges. The facility will operate 24/7, providing transitory care for clients waiting for placement in full rehabilitation facilities. Typical stays are expected to last between 30 and 90 days.
In partnership with Island Health, Vancouver Island Connective will operate the home. The initiative is part of the British Columbia government’s ‘Road to Recovery’ model, aimed at providing timely, local access to care. The beds will primarily serve residents within the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District.
Local officials, including Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions and Tseshaht First Nation Chief Councillor Ken waamiis Watts, highlighted the long-standing community need for such services. The addition is intended to fill a critical gap in the continuum of care for those affected by the toxic drug crisis.
