Port City Colombo hosts investor forum in Maldives
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Maldives, in partnership with CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd., hosted the Port City Colombo Investor Forum in Malé on August 10, 2026. The invitation-only event targeted senior Maldivian business leaders, developers, and investors to present the investment proposition of Port City Colombo.
Port City Colombo is a 269-hectare master-planned city and Special Economic Zone in Sri Lanka. The forum aimed to position the zone as a platform for Maldivian businesses looking to expand their presence across South Asia. This engagement follows previous regional investor forums held in Singapore, the UAE, and Oman.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner Mohamed Rizvi Hassen highlighted the geographic and cultural ties between the two Indian Ocean neighbors, suggesting the project could create a new dimension of economic partnership. Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, Chairperson of Visit Maldives Corporation, emphasized the need for the bilateral relationship to evolve through investment, innovation, and commercial partnerships.
