Barcelona transport disruptions hit by station accident and bus strikes

Barcelona is facing significant transport disruptions due to infrastructure failures and labor strikes. A ceiling collapse at the Fabra i Puig Rodalies station injured three people and forced the station's closure, affecting the R4 line. This incident occurred during ongoing renovation works valued at over 300,000 euros.

Simultaneously, bus drivers from Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) conducted a seven-hour strike on September 22, with service levels reduced to 20% for much of the day. The strike stems from failed negotiations regarding a new collective agreement, with workers demanding a 35-hour work week and improved rest schedules. Workers have threatened further partial strikes in early October if an agreement is not reached.

Other regional mobility issues include significant traffic delays at the Port de la Bonaigua due to roadwork on the C-28, where commuters report unpredictable wait times exceeding 90 minutes. Additionally, the project for the Balaguer tram has been suspended following contract rescission by the Generalitat, impacting local urban planning.
