Port-Gentil hospital targeted in attempted medical equipment burglary

An attempted burglary occurred during the night of August 14–15, 2026, at the Centre hospitalier régional (CHR) de Ntchengué in Port-Gentil. Unidentified individuals attempted to force the rear door of the building housing the medical imaging scanner.

Dr. Jonas Mboumba, the hospital's director general, expressed concern that the targeted entrance provides direct access to expensive medical equipment. He noted that the scanner is vital for patient diagnostics and treatment in the Ogooué-Maritime province. An investigation is expected to identify the perpetrators and determine their motives.
