Port Hope launches hydrant maintenance and flushing initiative

The Municipality of Port Hope has launched a hydrant maintenance and flushing initiative scheduled to run on weekdays until October 23. The program involves flow testing approximately 125 hydrants to ensure adequate water pressure and flow throughout the urban area.

As part of the project, staff will repaint hydrants based on flow capacity and add reflective ear markers. This is a multi-year project intended to cover a quarter of the urban area's hydrants each year. Residents are advised to avoid doing laundry during flushing periods due to potential pressure drops or discoloration. If water becomes discolored, officials recommend flushing a cold water tap for five to ten minutes.
