Port infrastructure updates in Porto Santo and Maputo

In Porto Santo, renovation and excavation works are underway at the marina to improve operational safety and depth. The project involves dredging accumulated sediments to allow larger vessels to dock. However, concerns have been raised regarding the environmental impact of depositing these sediments near beaches and restaurants without prior laboratory analysis, as port sediments often contain organic waste, heavy metals, and fuels.

Meanwhile, the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) has invested $13.2 million in two new Liebherr mobile harbor cranes. This investment brings the total number of such cranes at the port to eight, replacing older equipment as part of a modernization program. Minister of Transport and Logistics João Matlombe stated that port expansion must be supported by improvements in the broader logistics corridor, including rail and road connections, to ensure continuous cargo movement.
