Port Klang animal cruelty case: Two plead not guilty

Two individuals have pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges in a Port Klang Sessions Court following the death of a dog named Rocky. The incident occurred on July 29 outside a residence in Taman Telok Gedung Indah.

Muhammad Shah Idham Nor Haikal Shaharom, a 24-year-old delivery rider, is accused of restraining the male dog with a looped leash around its neck in a manner that caused pain. S. Roghini Devi, 42, identified as the dog’s owner, is accused of unreasonably pulling the animal during the same incident.

The prosecution, representing the Selangor Veterinary Services Department, is seeking a joint trial as both cases involve the same facts. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2015, convictions can result in fines between RM20,000 and RM100,000, up to three years of imprisonment, or both.

Judge Mujib Saroji set bail at RM6,000 for each accused person with one surety. As part of the bail conditions, Roghini was ordered to report to the veterinary services department every month until the case concludes. The matter is scheduled for case management on October 8.
