Port Macquarie ocean pool project advances to state determination
The Port Macquarie Ocean Pool project has reached the state government determination stage following a gateway determination by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. The proposed $13.28 million development, led by the Port Macquarie Tidal Pool Committee, includes an Olympic-sized eight-lane lap pool, a children’s wading pool, a leisure zone, and public amenities.
While proponents highlight social, health, and economic benefits, the project faces opposition from the Protect Oxley Beach Group. Concerns raised include the project’s location, environmental zoning, long-term financial sustainability, and potential coastal risks. The proposal must still undergo updates to confirm its location within the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area before proceeding to public exhibition.
