Port of Antwerp-Bruges allocates 1 million euros to logistics projects

Lantis and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges have jointly allocated nearly 1 million euros to ten logistics projects aimed at shifting freight transport in the Antwerp region from roads to rail, inland shipping, and night logistics.

The selection resulted from an open call launched under the European innovation project ALTHEA. Out of more than 30 applications, ten projects were chosen based on quality, sustainability, impact, and competence. These two-year projects receive up to 50 percent of their costs, capped at 100,000 euros for individual companies and 200,000 euros for consortia.

The initiatives focus on three strategies: increasing water and rail transport, spreading transport across day and night, and digitizing logistical cooperation. Key projects include new rail connections by Duferco and Van Moer, expanded inland shipping by AFC, ADPO, and Hutchison Ports, and the implementation of night logistics by DP World and Van Moer. Additionally, companies like INEOS Phenol and Katoen Natie are working to reduce truck reliance through block trains and improved logistics hubs.
