Port of Arica lifts cargo deconsolidation restrictions for Bolivia
The Port of Arica, through the Empresa Portuaria Arica (EPA) and concessionaire Terminal Puerto Arica (TPA), has announced the removal of restrictions on containerized cargo deconsolidation operations destined for Bolivia.
This decision follows technical dialogues with Bolivian importers, customs agents, and transporters aimed at eliminating supply chain bottlenecks. The regulatory flexibility allows for container opening, parcel classification, and the transfer of goods to transit trucks to occur more dynamically within port facilities, reducing delays and extra costs related to storage or equipment detention.
The measure is expected to directly benefit small and medium-sized Bolivian importing enterprises that require cargo fractionation in the Chilean port before land transit to cities such as La Paz, Cochabamba, or Santa Cruz. To maintain efficiency, authorities have implemented reinforced operational zones and digital traceability systems to ensure customs control without hindering truck flow.
