Port of Auckland's Bledisloe North Wharf hits deck‑laying milestone

Port of Auckland announced that the first precast concrete deck panel has been installed at the new Bledisloe North Wharf, marking the start of the final construction phase. The deck‑laying programme will involve 290 precast panels—about half cast on‑site and half off‑site—followed by the placement of roughly 2,580 m³ of concrete to form the wharf deck, after which marine fittings will be added.

The $200 million project, delivered by construction firm HEB, follows fast‑track consent granted in August 2025 and is intended to create Auckland’s first multi‑use wharf capable of handling larger cruise ships and roll‑on/roll‑off freight. Port chief executive Roger Gray said the milestone “sets us up well into the future” and supports the city’s gateway status. Both the Bledisloe North Wharf and the adjacent Te Waharoa International Cruise Terminal are slated to open in March 2027.
