Port of Constanța security alerts trigger bomb and drone investigations
On 29 July 2024 a bomb alert was triggered at the passenger‑terminal area of the Port of Constanța after a recorded 112 call reported possible explosives. Prefect Adrian Picoiu said no evacuation was ordered and urged the public to remain calm while security units, including police, firefighters and intelligence officers, began checks. The Ministry of Defence later suggested the threatening audio may have been generated by artificial intelligence.
Later the same day a separate drone alert led authorities to suspend all port activities and restrict access through Gate 1 while investigations continued. No explosive device had been confirmed.
In a related but distinct incident, an RO‑Alert issued to residents of Tulcea county warned of possible falling debris from aerial objects linked to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Romanian Air Force scrambled two F‑16 fighters to address air‑space threats near the Danube border.
