Port of Durrës seizure: 41 kg of cocaine found in Brazilian container
Police in Albania have seized approximately 41.35 kilograms of cocaine at the Port of Durrës. The drugs, valued at an estimated 2 million euros, were discovered hidden in the outer lids of a container arriving from Brazil that was officially documented to be transporting chicken meat.
The seizure was part of a police operation codenamed ‘Anchor 3’, conducted by the Durrës Local Police Narcotics Investigation Sector in coordination with border, migration, and customs authorities. This marks the third attempt to smuggle narcotics into Albania through the Port of Durrës within a single month.
Criminology expert Ervis Karamuço noted that drug trafficking routes from Latin America to Albania have been consolidated for years. He suggested that pure cocaine is often processed within Albanian territory before being distributed to various European cities. Karamuço also observed an increase in police controls at the port, describing it as a resurgence of institutional engagement in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
