Port of Genoa breakwater construction advances with wave-protection wall
Construction has progressed on the new breakwater for the Port of Genoa, with the development of the wave-protection wall now underway. The Consorzio PerGenova Breakwater, led by Webuild, is building this component both above and below sea level to protect the port's access channels and water basins from wave impact.
To date, the thirty-second caisson has been positioned, allowing the infrastructure to emerge approximately 7 meters above sea level. The project is being executed on seabed depths reaching 50 meters and represents one of Europe’s major maritime infrastructure investments. The breakwater is designed to improve operational conditions, enabling the port to accommodate newer generations of container ships.
This project works in synergy with the Terzo Valico project to strengthen the connection between the port and the railway system, aiming to enhance the logistical corridor between Italy and European markets and increase the port's competitiveness in the Mediterranean.
