Port of Genoa considers new site for chemical storage

A new proposal has emerged regarding the relocation of chemical storage facilities for companies Superba and Carmagnani in the Port of Genoa. Following the rejection of a transfer to Ponte Somalia, authorities are considering a site near the Porto Petroli quay, close to the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente.

The plan suggests that the new facilities could be built underground to allow the companies to maintain their activities in the Multedo area without moving to a different port zone. This arrangement is intended to avoid interference with Fincantieri’s long-discussed maritime shipyard expansion project.

To implement this solution, new space within the port must be recovered. This would likely require Eni, which holds a majority stake in Porto Petroli, to make a portion of its currently conceded areas available for the new chemical deposits.
