Italy maritime news: enforcement, leadership changes, and Barcolana events
Italy is seeing significant maritime activity involving environmental enforcement, leadership changes, and major nautical events. In Genoa, the Port Authority has intensified inspections to ensure compliance with the ‘Genoa Blue Agreement’. In 2026, over 150 inspections were conducted on foreign and Italian vessels, resulting in ten irregularities related to emissions and the detention of one ship.
Leadership transitions are occurring within the Coast Guard. Miriana Ligorio has assumed command of the Circomare in Santa Margherita Ligure, succeeding Donato Florio. Additionally, Antonio Franchino has taken over the Local Maritime Office in Porto Cesareo from Antonio Iacovelli.
In Trieste, the training ship Amerigo Vespucci has arrived to conclude its 2026 World Tour, marking the final leg of a journey exceeding 50,000 nautical miles. The ship’s presence coincides with the 58th edition of the Barcolana regatta. Public events include visits to the Coast Guard vessel Bruno Gregoretti and various maritime forums.
Looking ahead, the Pescara-Sottocosta maritime salon has announced its 2027 edition, scheduled for April at the Marina di Pescara, aiming to strengthen the central Italian nautical industry.
