Port of Gioia Tauro officials demand probe into alleged arms transit

Calabrian officials and labor unions are calling for urgent investigations into reports that the Port of Gioia Tauro may be used for the transit of weapons or military supplies destined for Israel.

Michele Conia, the Mayor of Cinquefrondi, has appealed to the national government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and port authorities to conduct transparent verifications. He stated that Calabria must not become a hub for the transport of arms and expressed deep concern regarding the humanitarian situation in Palestine.

Similarly, Giuseppe Ranuccio, Vice President of the Calabria Regional Council, has urged the regional government to seek intervention from the national government. Ranuccio emphasized the need to verify the contents of containers allegedly linked to the Israeli military supply chain to ensure no violations of national or international regulations are occurring.
