Port of Klaipėda develops green methanol and marina projects

The Port of Klaipėda is advancing two major infrastructure projects aimed at diversifying its services and supporting the maritime energy transition.

Through the H2Deri@BSP project, the port authority and international partners have developed a concept for a green methanol bunkering vessel. The proposed vessel would have an 800-tonne capacity and could supply up to 250,000 tonnes of green methanol annually. This initiative is designed to meet the growing demand for alternative fuels and support green shipping corridors across the Baltic Sea. The port already operates a green hydrogen production facility, which could potentially be used to produce green methanol.

Additionally, the port has commenced design work for a new marina for yachts and leisure boats. Located next to the new Cruise Terminal currently under construction, the marina will be designed by Hidrosfera under a EUR 145,000 contract. The facility is expected to provide approximately 85 berths for vessels between 10 and 20 metres in length, offering access to electricity and fresh water to address local shortages of leisure boating infrastructure.
