Port of Livorno and Port of Klaipėda discuss strategic cooperation

The Port of Livorno and the Port of Klaipėda have initiated discussions to share development strategies and industrial synergies. A delegation from the Lithuanian port met with the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority at Palazzo Rosciano to compare infrastructure expansion plans.

The meeting, organized under the auspices of the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), focused on technical comparisons, specifically regarding Klaipėda’s ‘Southport’ project. This major expansion involves a 1.4 billion euro investment to reclaim 100 hectares from the sea, creating a container terminal with a capacity of 2.5 million TEU and depths of up to 17 meters.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the two authorities discussed shared goals in decarbonization, including the progress of ‘cold ironing’ technologies within the port systems. Potential future collaborations are also being explored in the fields of customs, technology, and commercial operations.
