Port of Livorno authorities seize 53 kg of cocaine hidden in Peruvian avocados

Authorities in the Port of Livorno, Italy, have seized 53 kilograms of pure cocaine hidden within a shipment of avocados arriving from Peru. The operation was conducted by the Guardia di Finanza in collaboration with officials from the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli.

Following suspicions raised during risk analysis, officials scanned the container and discovered 45 blocks of drugs concealed within the engine compartment. The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of approximately 20 million euros. This incident follows a similar recent seizure in the same port, where 63 kilograms of cocaine were found hidden in a shipment of bananas.

The operation was coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Livorno. Local authorities noted that the seizure demonstrates the ongoing importance of inter-institutional synergy in monitoring international drug trafficking routes through the port.
