Port of Long Beach advances zero-emission and infrastructure goals

Steven Neal has assumed the presidency of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, committing to the ‘Port of the Future’ vision. This long-term strategy aims to double annual container volumes to 20 million TEUs by 2050 while achieving 100% zero-emissions port operations. To support this, the port has planned US$ 3.3 billion in capital investments over the next decade, including the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility to triple rail capacity.

In a related move toward sustainability, the Board unanimously approved an update to a landmark agreement with air quality regulators. The revised agreement, which awaits approval from the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners, includes incentives for cleaner ships and zero-emission trucks, alongside a $40 million investment in regional charging and fueling infrastructure. The update also establishes enforceable deadlines and financial consequences for failing to meet specific environmental milestones.
