Port of Los Angeles extends Yusen Terminals lease to 2056

The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved a 30-year lease extension for Yusen Terminals, securing the operator’s presence at the Port of Los Angeles through 2056. The agreement facilitates a $200 million investment by Yusen Terminals into zero-emission cargo-handling equipment.

Yusen Terminals has operated a 232-acre facility at Berths 212-224 since 1991. Under the new terms, the company will expand its use of battery-powered and hydrogen fuel-cell equipment, including electric top handlers, forklifts, and yard tractors, to support the port’s clean air initiatives.

Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, noted the operator’s willingness to test and incorporate zero-emission technology. Alan McCorkle, President and CEO of Yusen Terminals, stated that the long-term lease provides the certainty required to continue investing in terminal technology and personnel.
