Port of Montreal expansion begins construction in Contrecoeur

Construction has commenced on the Port of Montreal expansion project in Contrecoeur, located in the Montérégie region along the St. Lawrence River. The project has entered a new phase with the construction of a stone work jetty designed to serve as a platform for machinery and wharf building. Once completed, the structure will be converted into a shipping container yard surface.

To date, approximately 250,000 tonnes of stone have been delivered to the site. The expansion is a joint development between the Port of Montreal and terminal operator DP World, supported by a $1.16-billion loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank. The federal government has fast-tracked the project, designating it as a ‘nation-building’ initiative.
