Port of Morelos reports cargo growth in first half of 2026

The Port of Morelos in Mexico handled 11,893 metric tons of cargo during the first half of 2026, marking a 6.4% increase compared to the previous year. This growth in commercial cargo is notable as it is the only such increase reported in Quintana Roo, contrasting with a 15.5% decline in air cargo at Cancún Airport.

Imports at the port rose by 8.5%, totaling 9,296 metric tons, while exports remained relatively stable at 2,597 metric tons. The port serves the northern region's commercial and hotel sectors by importing goods such as meat products, specialized equipment, bedding, and curtains. Due to import growth rates reaching between 10 and 15 percent earlier in the year, the port has undergone expansion and modernization efforts.
