Port of Motril begins Green Motril energy project

The Port of Motril has commenced the first phase of the ‘Green Motril’ project, a strategic initiative aimed at achieving energy self-sufficiency and sustainable transformation through renewable energy and smart technology. The current phase involves land preparation, service networks, and paving across approximately 30,000 square meters.

This initial stage was awarded to the construction company ALVAC, S.A. with a budget of 2.7 million euros and is expected to be completed during the first four months of 2027. Following this phase, Grupo Cuerva will be responsible for installing photovoltaic canopies, while General Electric will implement the project's associated smart grid.

Funded by European innovation funds, the project seeks to increase the port's energy autonomy and reduce its environmental footprint. José García Fuentes, president of the Port Authority of Motril, stated that the project represents a decisive step toward a more efficient and competitive energy model.
