Port of Newcastle Clean Energy Precinct business case completed

HPC Hamburg Port Consulting has completed the final business case for the proposed Clean Energy Precinct at the Port of Newcastle. The 220-hectare development is designed to facilitate the production, storage, handling, and export of clean energy products, specifically focusing on hydrogen and hydrogen-derived fuels.

The study evaluated various ownership, governance, and commercial structures to guide future investment and development. It identified two distinct development pathways that offer the Port of Newcastle flexibility in how it engages with the emerging clean energy economy while creating sustainable long-term value.

The business case incorporates market analysis, financial modeling, and risk assessment to address future demand scenarios and investment requirements. Key strategic conditions identified to unlock the precinct's value include phased infrastructure delivery, market development, and securing customer commitments.
