Port of Newcastle launches new trans-Tasman shipping service

The Port of Newcastle has commenced a new trans-Tasman shipping service to diversify its trade operations. Auckland-based MOVe Logistics has begun transporting containers and breakbulk cargo through the multipurpose terminal at Mayfield.

The service provides an alternative to Sydney ports for businesses trading with New Zealand, aiming to reduce landside transport costs and avoid congestion-related delays. This initiative aligns with an ongoing $36 million expansion of the multipurpose terminal, which is designed to increase storage capacity and accommodate cargo for renewable energy projects, such as wind farm and battery components.
