Port of NY/NJ launches $45M zero-emission truck incentive programs

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the nonprofit CALSTART have announced two incentive programs totaling $45 million to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles and charging infrastructure at the Port of New York and New Jersey.

The Clean Truck Incentive program will provide up to $39 million in point-of-sale vouchers for zero-emission drayage trucks, terminal tractors, and supporting charging equipment. Complementing this, the $5 million Green Drayage Accelerator program will fund up to five electric truck charging hubs located within 10 miles of the port’s marine terminal facilities.

These initiatives are funded by a $451 million EPA Clean Ports Program grant, the largest sustainability grant in the Port Authority’s history. Beyond vehicle incentives, the grant will support electric cargo handling equipment and vessel shore power infrastructure. CALSTART will administer the programs and operate tracking dashboards to monitor vehicle performance and charger utilization through 2028.
