Port of Paranaguá executes major sugar export and sees container growth

The Port of Paranaguá has completed a concentrated operation to export over 127,000 tons of sugar across four vessels. This massive logistical effort involved more than 1,300 workers, including operators, checkers, and general service assistants, to manage both bagged and bulk sugar shipments.

As Brazil's second-largest sugar export terminal, Paranaguá accounts for approximately 20% of the country's total sugar exports. The surge in activity is linked to India's decision to suspend sugar exports through late September to protect its domestic supply. Major destinations for these shipments include Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, with smaller volumes sent to Europe and North America.

Separately, container movement at the port continues to show growth. The TCP terminal reached a milestone of 1 million TEUs moved so far this year, hitting the mark ten days faster than in the previous year. This growth is driven by a 10% increase in refrigerated cargo—primarily meat and frozen goods—and rising exports in the paper, pulp, and automotive sectors.
