Port of Ravenna faces projected 21% decline in August traffic

The Port of Ravenna is facing a significant downturn in maritime traffic. Preliminary estimates from the Port System Authority indicate a projected 21.2% decrease in cargo volume for August compared to the same month in 2025. For the first eight months of the year, statistical services estimate a 2.5% decline, a sharp reversal from previous growth forecasts of over 6%.

Port The local political group Ravenna in Comune has challenged the official interpretation of these figures. They argue that recent reported increases in traffic were largely driven by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) discharges at the BW Singapore regasification terminal, rather than organic growth. They note that the 817,000 tonnes of LNG arrivals between January and July 2026 nearly account for the total reported increase of 943,000 tonnes compared to the previous year.

Additionally, the group has raised concerns regarding the lack of transparency in statistical reporting. Specifically, they pointed out the absence of data concerning commercial traffic to and from Israel in recent reports, despite previous official statements confirming significant annual transit volumes of containers and bulk goods, such as fertilizers.
