Port of Rijeka faces logistics hurdles for Ukrainian grain exports
The Port of Rijeka faces increasing pressure to facilitate Ukrainian grain exports following drone attacks on vessels in the Black Sea. While the port's demand for silo capacity and transshipment services continues to rise, Croatia currently lacks the necessary railway wagons and locomotives to transport larger volumes of grain to the port.
Duško Grabovac, President of the Board of Port of Rijeka, noted that the capacity for increased exports is limited by existing railway infrastructure. The potential for the Black Sea to be declared a war zone by the International Maritime Organization could further disrupt maritime routes, placing even greater reliance on alternative land and sea corridors like Rijeka.
