Port of Santander completes second phase of automobile silo

The Port of Santander has completed the second phase of its vertical automobile silo, immediately bringing its capacity to 9,328 vehicles across 207,200 square meters. The project, managed by the Port Authority of Santander (APS), aims to optimize vehicle terminal efficiency by locating storage near docks and railway sidings to promote sincromodality.

César Díaz, president of the APS, stated that the total investment for the project is nearly 70 million euros. The final phase of construction is underway, with the full facility expected to be operational before next summer. Once completed, the silo will reach a total surface area of 322,000 square meters and a capacity of 14,600 cars.

The construction utilized lightweight, reusable prefabricated elements to allow for simultaneous terminal operations, reduce foundation costs, and shorten execution timelines. This expansion is part of the APS Investment Plan for 2026-2030, which envisions public-private actions valued at 245 million euros.
