Port of Santos resumes navigation after crane severs power cables
Navigation in parts of the Port of Santos channel was partially suspended after a crane on a barge struck and severed four power cables from the Itatinga Hydroelectric Plant transmission line. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon, causing the cables to fall into the sea.
The Santos Port Authority (APS) reported that while the incident affected approximately 30% of the port's operations, electricity supply was maintained. Two of the four cables, weighing a total of approximately three tons, were removed by Friday morning, and the channel was fully reopened to navigation by Friday afternoon.
No injuries were reported during the incident. The Maritime Patrol of the Port Guard has approached the barge crew to identify those involved, though the specific company responsible for the vessel has not yet been disclosed.
